Alps & Lakes in the West: Cows in Tyrol

These cows in Tyrol are clearly relaxed. Austrians are very proud of their close relationship with nature and the role that agricultural life plays in daily traditions. Every autumn, cows in alpine regions are decorated with flowers, bells and painted leads and carried down to the valleys, where they spend the winter in a stable.

This is accompanied by a festival and called "Almabtrieb". If you are in Austria during September or October, check with the local tourism office if you could possibly find one of these - they make great picture opportunities and are fun to watch both for locals and tourists.
