Museumsquartier (Museum District, Vienna)

The MuseumsQuartier is the new museum district of Vienna. It was
gradually opened since 2001 after more than two decades of permanent hassles about the construction of the place. The MuseumsQuartier is an absolute "must-see" attraction of Vienna: More than
60,000 square metres of exhibition space, divided up between several museums.
My personal favourite is the Leopold Museum, which is based on a private collection and focuses on Austrian modern art. The collection of the Leopold Museum includes the World′s finest array of Schiele works. The other "big" museum is the MUMOK, which you have seen a few pictures before (the one with the grey volcanic stone façade).
However, there are several other museums and exhibition venues. Beyond that, the MuseumsQuartier is an important meeting point especially for young people: All year round, all sorts of social events take place in the courtyard and during summer, there are plastic boxes put up at the courtyards to sit in and chill. All pretty cool, even if it doesn′t necessarily sound like it - have a look at the picture, it explains better what the spirit is like than my descriptions. On a warm summer evening, bring a beer and good company - and the night is sorted. The MuseumsQuartier is accessible anytime throughout the year.
