Stones at the side of the Jewish section on Zentralfriedhof, destroyed by bombs during WWII.

Broken tombstones at the Jewish section of the Zentralfriedhof. Most of the Jewish cemeteries in Austria were destroyed by the Nazis and restored only after the end of WWII. This doesn't really apply to these stones, though: They were damaged when bombs hit the Zentralfriedhof.

After the war, the Jewish Community (Israelitische Kultusgemeinde) of Vienna tried to put them together again, but failed in some instances. The stones that could not be indentified were put together to a pile and equipped with a memorial plate. The rest of the Jewish section is still in active use.
